House of Rothach Discovery

House of Rothach Discovery

Just realised, it would seem Sunday evenings are a good time for me to write and tonight I thought I would give you a little insight into how I settled on the name House of Rothach.

I set out on my 'professional' candle-making journey 2 years ago but the company name I had chosen, trademarked, set up social media accounts on and quickly moved up the rankings on google with, turned out to be more popular than I first realised.  Even although my old brand & fragrance style was completely different from the other ones on the market with the same name, I knew I needed to make a change while the business was still very young, to allow it to grow.

I knew what direction I wanted to go but new name....I hadn't a clue! I spent quite a bit of time coming up with funky, fun names only to look at them a while later and realise they were a big fat NO!  Then, I had a lightbulb moment - it was staring right at me.  My name.

Now, my surname is Munro and is, well, House of Munro doesn't quite have the same ring to it as House of Rothach.  Rothach is Gaelic for Munro (there are several ways to spell Munro before anyone picks me up here...Rothaich being another one, but I decided to drop the i).

It all then started to fall into place like it was there all the time lurking in the shadows waiting for the right time to emerge. After recently introducing our own fragrances for our new Exclusive Collection range, of which the scents are gathered from fond memories of places visited in and around Scotland.....the name change couldn't have actually come at better time.... House of Rothach was born.

I always had an idea of introducing some simple home interiors to our collections and since we are no longer limited to candles in our new name.....keep watching!!

Oh yeah...I really wanted to use something from the Munro crest but our motto being "Dread God" and our symbol a perching eagle...I decided to give these a miss for now as didn't want to scare our customers away!!

My favourite quote for this week:  If you always do what you've done, you will always get what you always got - Ed Foreman.
